Day1-2: Arriving in Göttingen

Most of us arrived in Göttingen by 4pm. Sadly, Ben is still in transit after first having his flight cancelled and then his luggage lost. Isaac was on the same flight, but rebooked to arrive on Tuesday. But 16/18 is not bad considering all of the flight cancellations all over the US and Europe.

The MSP gang, while we were still chipper.

The MSP group plodded along, first to CDG, then to Frankfurt airport, Frankfurt Haubtbahnhoff, and finally Göttingen. On a bus at Frankfurt airport the driver stopped to move a suitcase that was in the middle of the road--it was Ande's! We were shocked that it actually found its way onto the airplane--a bit scuffed, but it was there (unlike Ben's).

We met Sasha in Paris, David in Frankfurt, then found Rosemary, Megan, Beck, Kate, Collin, and Kaisa in Göttingen.  Almost all of us went for a walk around the city before dinner. There were lots of people out and about and shops open, but we just walked to stave off our sleepiness. We saw the famous gänseliesel (goose girl) statue in Göttingen's old town, then walked along the old medieval wall which is now a walking path around the city.

 Little snowmen on the wall.

Sixteen of us had dinner at Zum Szültenbürger (actually, we were led to an empty cafe across the street). It was traditional German fare with a delicious crepe for dessert.

Rosemary, Grace, and Ande are missing from this pic (sorry!)

I think everyone is ready for a good night's sleep. Math starts in earnest tomorrow!
