Day 8: Ole Grad & National Germanic Museum

Germany woke up in a good mood today! Beginning with an incredible hotel breakfast in Nuremberg,  setting the perfect tone for an exciting day ahead.

We then kicked off our day by talking to St. Olaf graduate Josie Goellner ‘22. She shared insights into her journey, including her experience with a Fulbright Scholarship, living abroad, and life after St. Olaf. It was exciting to hear firsthand what it’s like to study and live abroad long-term from someone who was in our shoes just a few years ago.

After that enlightening experience, the majority of us made our way to the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg. The views here were spectacular, reminding us how lucky we are to be in a beautiful place with such a storied history. Inside the castle museum, we explored exhibits that brought the past to life by examining ancient weapons, armor, and things of the sort.

From there, we made our way back with a quick stop at the Beautiful Fountain of Nuremberg, where you can make a wish by turning the gold ring with one finger clockwise. I gave it a try because who couldn’t use a little more luck in life?

Our journey continued at the Germanic National Museum, where we got to explore art, culture, and history all in one place. Every room held a new age with a different story to tell. Our guide, Thomas, depicted these stories in a way that made sense and made the past feel alive.

Our day was filled with a lot of adventure and surprising sunshine! We are already excited for what tomorrow has in store for us!
