Day 9: Nuremberg Trials Museum!

Today we started off bright and early with class at 9am in one of the hotel meeting rooms, which was a nice change of scenery! We did a quick review of our content from last week, then learned about Noetherian Rings and the Hilbert Basis Theorem. We (with a lot of help from professor Dietz) were able to prove a corollary to the HBT in under 10 minutes, but it took 20 years for the first guy in the 1890's, so we've clearly made some progress since then!

After class we had a quick break for lunch. It was raining and pretty cold, so most of us checked out the food offerings at the nearby train station. There were tons of options, and I had a delicious chicken kebab and hot chocolate! Our next destination was the Nuremberg Trials Museum! After a short subway ride and a quick walk, we arrived at the Nuremberg Palace of Justice and (eventually) found the museum entrance.

We were very impressed by the size of the building!

As someone who has always enjoyed learning about history, especially Holocaust history, I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition. Most of the text was in German, so the audio guides included in our tickets were extremely helpful, and we spent quite a while exploring the exhibit. We even got to see a short, 15 minute film/presentation in courtroom 600, where the actual Nuremberg trials took place!

Once everyone was finished with the museum, we headed back to our hotel, where many of us took the next hour to relax in our rooms. At around 5:30, most of the class met in the lobby and split off into groups to head to dinner. It was still cold and icy outside, so a few friends and I went to a cute burger place just inside the city walls. Our burgers were delicious, and so were our shakes (which were even the perfect consistency, not too thick!).

Beck, Rosemary, Kaisa, and Rachel with our burgers!

Overall, quite the fun and educational day! We are all looking forward to our trip to Wurzburg tomorrow after a good nights rest!
